Hearing Silence

It’s the quiet

That’s so nice to hear

Interspersed with the sounds

Of origin.

Ocean extremities stroke the shoreline

While bird’s converse

And air moves

As it certainly must

While the earth breathes herself.

Sitting quietly

Watching the sea-water

As it passes

Slowly through the channel

Below our porch

Feels like being in love

I absorb this

As deeply as I know how.

Lungs expanding

Grateful for home

And now business

Allowing me to remain

Where so many have not

Simply living

Each blessed day

In the cradle of nature

Here in the Broughton.                              May 24, 2013
