I’ve never observed
An animal
That didn’t know how
To bask in the brilliance
Of being incarnate
Or to feel fear
To be surprised
Or hope
For something yet to come.
Animals think
And feel
Constantly.
This seems obvious
Before and after
A lifetime
Of observation,
And yet most folks
Like to think of themselves
As somewhere above
